Finished things

I now have pics of the hat with me wearing it:

So what was he taking a picture of?

I showed my recent stash acquisition from Friday, in there was a couple skeins of a sport/dk weight purple yarn that also happened to be superwash. My oldest niece, Bailey loves purple. So I pulled these two skeins out and started the Making a Memory hat for her. It's a slouchy hat style, she's got long hair so she can stuff it up into the hat if she wants.

I also got the superwash corriedale Knitted Wit yarn done. The roving was called Summer Fun. I had originally thought to do it chain plied, but wanted to see what it would look like as a 2-ply. I had read in Ply about matching the color sections, but since its a superwash, didn't want to fuss with trying to get all the joins back up. So just let it barber pole:

689.6 yards of lace weight. That's definitely shawl material! Yes, its still a little over energized.

I was in that spin thin flow, and had re-organized some of the stash bins. Moved fiber that was in two smaller bins, into one larger bin. Moved sock yarn that wasn't filling a bin into a smaller one. You know, reorganizing. ;-) I didn't want the little batt of one ounce cashmere-camel to get felted/bashed up. So divided it in half and spun it up on two bobbins and then plied it:
 In progress
Comparing to the finished Muted Summer Fun lace
 All done!
Having problems getting that good detail on the close-up. Definitely a lace weight and 135.4 yards of it. I haven't found a pattern that I want to use it with. I have more cashmere and other yummy fibers in my stash, so may be able to add it to those as a finished project to knit up. I think dyeing will also happen. :-)

Okay, I sat down over a week ago and caught things up and spread them over the course of days to publish. Tuesday's post was the last of them, so I'm going to do two to bring things current again. This one and the one that will publish on Thursday. ;-)  Hope you don't mind, but it helps me make sure I post things.

Mini Fiber Fun

Pearl Fiber Arts celebrated their third Anniversary the weekend of October 19th & 20th. It was also the same weekend as Norm Thompson Outfitter's Sample Sale. Brandon had volunteered to work it so got $100 in apparel to spend. I'm a very lucky girl. ;-) I have new dresses and pants and a couple pairs of shoes from it. That was before the public got to go in on Saturday. I invited Dawn-Marie and Brent to come and they had fun shopping too. I found a folding foam mattress and an owl yard decoration.  Here's the foam mattress:
I wish that I could have gotten two, but there was only one. So will be on the look out for another! We can use it for camping.

I took my Halloween Witches Cat hat with me to the shop:
Amazon Local had a coupon for Supa and so I got two of their Deluxes. One with tomato soup and the Country sandwich and the other with the peanut soup and the Radix sandwich. I didn't sample the tomato soup and should have. It had red peppers in it. Even William didn't enjoy it. The mushroom soup was a tiny bit spicier than I would have liked, or I would have gotten it. Need to go back to taste the clam chowder.

I used my Stash Sale money and a little bit to pick up some fiber from Alexandra's Crafts trunk show:

 BFL in Black Rose colorway
Merino-Silk in Wine
Sale yarns. I had thought about using them to make a Despicable Me hat, but the blue isn't blue enough. I did buy some cake dyes, so could possibly overdye it and try for something darker.

I also got the second edition of Ply the magazine. It has a nice heavy paper and lovely paper. I might try one of the plying suggestions. Not sure that it was worth the $11 for it though for me. Wish I had been able to get down to the other magazine that there was a trunk show for.

Finished the hat:

Yarns are all Knit Picks. The red and dark orange are leftover from the Jayne hat. The lighter orange was actually a DK. I have leftovers still of the non-black colors and just a couple yards of the black.

I also bought some fiber from Paradise Fibers:
 Merino top - 8 ounces
Fake cashmere - 8 ounces

I mentioned the cake dyes I bought. I also have some natural dyes. I want to pull those and my undyed fibers in my stash and play with dyeing.

Right now, I'm spinning up some superwash Corriedale called Summer Fun by Knitted Wit:

Apron and handkerchiefs and an Accadmia

The Baroness' mother had been embroidering "G"s for Queen Gwyneth to have handkerchiefs for those who are emotional when in court. I've been giving them out to be hemmed. I had 11 of them that I tried to get done in time for the Kaldor Ness Accademia the middle of the October. Baroness Cristiana was going to be there teaching a class, and as head of retinue could get them to her.

I was also in the last stretches of getting my hem stitch smocked apron done. I think I mentioned I took the class at An Tir - West War?

I used the internet to get help with the hem stitch once we got back home. I like how it came out. I used this tutorial on how to do the hem stitch. I can't find a good pic of the apron hem with the hem stitch. I've done it on one of the handkerchiefs too, it looks better:

The apron with the smocking all done and the waistband/ties sewn on. I did the honeycomb stitch.

The other handkerchiefs I did with a folded hem that is mitered.
They are all labeled, but I didn't find Baroness Cristiana after lunch, so wasn't able to get them to her. I heard from Baroness Jill in my Tablet Weaving class that Queen Gwyneth has been inundated with them. So not in a huge hurry to get them to her. I'll try again at the Shire of River's Bend's Autumn Gathering in November.

The Canton of Kaldor Ness had an Accademia over a Saturday and a Sunday. On Saturday, Ignatius and I took a cheesemaking class. It was very interesting and we got yummy samples to bring home. Ignatius says that he'll support my endeavors, but doesn't have a desire to actively participate.

Domina Rafaella had a History of Knitting class that I took to support her. I used the class and the help of Valdemere to frog my Medieval Egyptian Muslim Stockings. I found that I had too many errors trying to throw in diapered diamonds on the fly. I need to chart it out and start over. I think that after I get past the ankle, if I switch to a larger needle that might help too.

These are kind of where I had gotten back to:

The last class of the day was a German Brick Stitch class. I was very tired at that point. Same teacher as the cheesemaking class too. I messed up the pattern and as soon as I can get back to it, I want to practice/finish it. It can be a little pouch flap.

Ignatius and Millicent spent the rest of their Saturday taking dance classes. My suggestion. ;-) Sunday, Ignatius came in early with me and read until his only class, the last dance class. I had a Tablet Weaving class with Baroness Jill. I need to move it to my tapestry loom to make it easier to to I think. I played with it at Revels, but the cards falling over when I'm doing the weft is frustrating.

Three Mountains Honor Feast 2013

The weekend after DMCT and Boar's Head was the Three Mountains Honor Feast. It's where they honor a long time member of their populace and have their Arts and Science Championship. Baroness Jill and Baroness Dafne competed in the Championship.

I worked on a hat that I needed to have done by that evening for Jose's birthday party. We'd gone to Helena's the night before. I made her a pair of owl fingerless mitts and Brandon made her a lovely box to store pretties in:
Lid of the box out of Bubinga
 Side out of oak
 Peek inside
 Owl Mitts:

The yarn is just Vanna's Choice in Rust. She squee'd when she got them, and again once she realized they were owls. I think she liked them. ;-)

I worked on Ryan's hat and got it done by court. ;-) Baroness Jill wasn't sure that I was going to make it.
Looks good on him and he's got a nice smile, so I think he likes it. :-) It was fun to make. The pattern is called Scurlera.

There was dancing going on, some rapier, lots of eating during the day and then the feast. We had to leave before dessert was served to get to the birthday party.

The Honoree, Lord Malcom Rudolph macGregor is the gentleman on Baroness Alexandria's right facing out from the table.

Revels Court October 2013

We sometimes have a court at Revels when Their Excellencies need to conclude business they were unable to do at the last court. This month, Baroness Svava asked for a court and a potluck at Revels. I had said that I was thinking about not wearing garb to it when I was talking at Alana's/Helena's birthday party the night before. Her husband, Micah held my hand and asked me to please wear garb.

Helena and Brigitta received Baroness' Favors for this court. Baroness Svava makes a haversack herself for each recipient and she didn't have them done in time for the DMCT-Boar's Head Court. Thus the request.

Waiting for the Herald to be ready to start court. Champions Eulalia and Nicolai, and the Youth Champion. Helena is the Bardic Champion, but I think here she was acting as retinue.

No pillow, so I wasn't going to kneel. My knees would have killed me if I had done that. It was a very nice honor to receive. Just need to get it back to her for the populace badge to be added to it.

Oh! This is the rust colored tunic dress. I like it! I was still working on my apron, it needs an apron.

What didn't get seen at Boar's Head

I had asked Lord Nicolai to run the Boar's Head portion of the weekend. He asked for a prize of feast gear. Millicent and I went shopping and found a plate and bowl. Then I checked with Domina Rafaella and she advised me on the type of paints to get from Blicks to use the oven to set the paint and make it permanent.

 Bowl with Boar Head
 Plate with a boar
Close-up of the boar

Sorry, don't know how to get the phone pics right-side up. Tried bringing it into my normal photo app and it turned it but couldn't save it.

Oh and I found photos of the slipcover for the beverage dispenser:
Back, I just kind of did an envelope fold and sewed those down.
Front. I think I'll find some fabric to go across the top half of the front to hide it a bit more.Maybe have a flap for the bottom?
The fabric from the side. Fun - huh?

Before Boar's Head at Revels, Friday aka Domina Rafaella had brought a big box of stash yarns that she was re-homing. I got a nice portion of it:
